To do, to act

To carry out an action, usually on purpose and with some effort. Said of anything a person does.

عَمِلَ سَامِي وَاجِبَهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ.

Sami did his homework at home.

To work

To be at a task, to labour or to serve. Said of someone busy at a job or holding one.

عَمِلَ الْجَارُ فِي السُّوقِ.

The neighbour worked at the market.

To make

To make an object with one's hands, to manufacture or build it.

عَمِلَتْ لَيْلَى كَعْكَةً لِلْأُسْرَةِ.

Layla made a cake for the family.

To act on, to take effect

Followed by “in”, said of a thing that has an effect on another or leaves a mark on it.
